How Writing a Book Can Benefit Your Business –with Jennifer Swanson on The Successful Author Podcast
About the Author
Today landing a job is very difficult. I graduated from a Masters of Human Resources program, and then spent a year trying to land a job. I sent out resumes to every position imaginable- even positions that I was VERY overqualified for, I just needed a job. I hear about a number of my friends who are in the same boat. There just aren’t that many jobs out there, and way too many people who are qualified. It’s a tough market today. Having gone through this, I immediately knew that I wanted to read and review Jennifer Swanson’s book What They See: How to stand out and shine in your new job in order to ensure that I could KEEP the job I had landed.
This book offered a number of very interesting and useful tips for how to maintain the job that other books taught you to land. The book is broken down into chapters such as Attitude, Dress Code, Nonverbal Cues, Work Ethic, and Managing Stress. There are several other chapters and each one offers insight into how to ensure that the job you just landed remains your job.
Jennifer makes sure to be concise and to the point as she explains her tips. She has a very neat way of writing, and is very professional (who would of thought!). The book reads as though she is just offering her opinion and you can take it or leave it, it definitely does not sound like she is telling you “You must do this or else you will fail horribly at life!”. I really enjoyed her writing style and found that I kept wanting to know what else she had to say. I also really appreciated the fact that she broke the chapters down into logical sections, as mentioned above. This made it easy to go back and refer to only the sections I wanted to re-read.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has just started in a new position, or even those who are stills searching for the right position. It offers some valuable tips that will really help you as you continue along with your career. I give this book:
4.5 out of 5 Hippos
